I am glad to write one of the famous festival celebrations at Coimbatore with different religious support. Coimbatore a Manchester of South India. Hundred's of cotton mill, coconut factories, large-scale industries, export of T-shirts, world second tastiest water and the list goes.
Also, Coimbatore is well-known for respect. People used to speak with a kind, respect and care even below their age moreover they don't call female by their names knowingly. it is their culture. They refer female/women/young girl as 'Amini' which is the term add respect to female. You can feel both equality and respect in an equal measure. People from other district love to take a bride or groom from Coimbatore only because of 'respect'.
I allow you to peep into our festival celebration. You are most welcome of your own imaginary world. The festival mode will start before a week fun-filled, one-day local holiday, meeting crush once in a year, celebration and contribution from all religion. It is a temple called koniamman Temple, koyyamma, the goddess worshiped by king "Kovan" who ruled the reign Koyan evolved into koniamma and the name of the city 'Koyambuthur ' Coimbatore derives. Each year the festival was celebrated at its highest peak by dragging Ratha yatra by native common people around the city. All devotional practice has been done by a woman though the goddess in the sanctum, the priest left jobless.
The Ratha yatra was been dragged around the city reflecting goddess around people. When all those happenings you might come across regularly and question me what is new in this? yes, it is something special when the Hindu goddess is been celebrated by all religious since it is one of the reasons behind the origin of 'Manchester of South India' The food was cooked and supplied by different religion the giant like chariot is also dragged by different people. This is the only temple where the oonjal festival is celebrated during 30 days of Aadi month (July-August). Many family engagements were made there.
Each year a majesty waiting for festival celebration. The fertile land production turns out vast cultivation per annum. Very cool climatic weather condition. Many textile and industrial owners majorly occupy's the city. And also the highest class community (Kurumba Kounder) own their belongings. People spend luxuriously on weddings. They spend on dowry alone nearly 2-3 kg of gold and diamond. 'That's why India is poor and Indian's are rich'.
People's pride and power are all completely suppressed under the marriage ceremony. So, what much brutal murder's are still alive in the name of pride. Where here you also find a great legend 'Arunachalam Muruganantham' inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins from Coimbatore.Being inspired by him a movie was made in the name as 'PADMAN '.He was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India.
