PLUG VALVES AND ITS TYPES
What is a Plug Valve?
Shaped like a cone or cylinder, a Plug Valves uses a rotating plug inside the body of a Valves to control fluid flow. These types of Valves have one or more horizontal passageways to allow flow through the Valves when open. Plug Valves are often used to move liquids or gases. They typically have two ports but can also have three or more depending on the application.
Advantages of Plug Valves:
The most important benefits of using Plug Valves are the full bore for the flow media, and 100% air tight shut off – even on solids such as granules, powders, pellets, chippings, fibers, slivers. Other Benefits are as Follows: -
· Plug Valve has a simple design with few parts.
· Easy Opening and Closing
· Offers minimal Resistance to Flow
· Avoid Leakages
· Helps in changing the direction of the flow
· Can be Serviced at the place of Installation.
Disadvantages of Plug Valves:
· Costly than Ball Valves
· Requires use of Actuators
· Requires Great Force due to high Fiction.
Features of Plug Valves:
· Quick low-torque quarter-turn actuation.
· PTFE-coated plug provides low operating torque
· Compact one-piece body.
· Easy Maintenance
· Pipe end connections
· Available in 316 Stainless Steel and Brass
· Vented Valves are available
· One-piece stainless steel handle and plugs are available

Types of Plug Valves:
The Following Points describes the types of Plug Valves, they are as Follows.
· Lubricated Plug Valves
· Non-Lubricated Plug Valves
Lubricated Plug Valves: Lubricated Plug Valves is said to have longer life, if taken care off and maintained properly. To reduce Friction and seal ports between the plug face and body seat a Lubricant is injected. The Lubricants are selected on the basis of fluid used. Lubricated Plug Valves prevents the seating surfaces against corrosion and establishes a bond between the plug and the body which results in minimizing Leakages. Lubricated plug Valves can be used in high pressure and it can also be used in services involving Gas, oil, water, Fuels etc.

Non-Lubricated Plug Valves: Friction between the Plug cone and Body is reduced by sleeves. Non-lubricating plug valves are used where maintenance must be kept to a minimum. Like lubricating plug valves, these valves also provide a bubble-tight closure and are of compact size.
