In applications where the stud is exposed to fatigue, threaded rods are only needed. For so many applications, cut threads are entirely acceptable, even though rolled threads may be slightly stronger. Typically, mass-produced fasteners (standard bolts and studs) are rolled but worked components with custom features and limited batch sizes are likely to be removed.

Threaded Rods are often better because not removed, the metal is “rolled” to the main diameter. This retains the grain of the steel, and even improves it in some cases. Complete body studs (cut thread) are weaker as metal is stripped to manufacture the thread, disrupting the steel grain.
